The free air that we breathe today is a priceless gift that our forefathers have earned for us undergoing unimaginable torments and struggles. We owe our freedom to several martyrs who laid down their lives for us. It is, therefore, important to value this freedom in a worthy manner and appreciate this great gift we have been bestowed upon. Here are some simple things you can do to celebrate the Independence Day and experience a true sense of pride and honour:
Attend Independence Day Events
Okay, so this might seem lame. It is a nice holiday that we have got and this is no time to get up early in the morning and attend an Independence Day event at a school, college, work place or social gathering. But, this is, in fact, one of the best ways to feel the gratitude and honour of living in a free country. Do it and you will appreciate how it feels.
Watch the Parade on TV
If you can’t make it to an Independence Day meet, hook on to your telly to watch the celebrations. You can witness the power and prowess of our proud armed forces that march-past their way through the Red Fort grounds. The soldiers marching ahead shoulder to shoulder, flawlessly tuning to the drumbeats is a spectacular display of discipline and stamina.
Know Your Freedom Fighters
Arrange a quiz, a crossword puzzle or any word game around the theme of our freedom fighters. You can arrange community gatherings and divide into teams to make it a fun-filled evening which also gives you a sense of patriotism. You can even form separate teams for children/ youngsters and elders, and find out which ones are the better patriots.
Put on Some Colours
One of the best ways of celebrating any occasion is through colours. Team up your whites with oranges or greens and throw in a fusion of the tricolor to embody the spirit of freedom and independence. It is also important to remember what the three bands of our national flag represent. The orange, white and green colours respectively stand for strength and courage, peace and truth, and fertility and auspiciousness of the land.
Watch a Patriotic Movie
This might sound like a cliché, but honestly tell me this – have you not felt the goosebumps (I am getting them as I write this!) everytime you saw a Border or a Bhagat Singh? Have you not held your head high everytime you listened to a Kandho Se Milte Hai Kandhe or a Jis Desh Me Sona Ugle? It reminds us of the countless sacrifices that the great heroes of our nation had made for the sake of our freedom, and is a beautiful chance to understand and admire their struggles and sacrifices.
Yera wishes you a very Happy Independence Day. Let’s enjoy the spirit of independence and salute the true sons of our soil. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!
