As India enters its 71st year of Independence, we can’t help but feel the pride and honour of living in a free country. This is a great privilege and it has come at a very huge price. Hundreds of thousands of men and women have given up their lives and undergone unspeakable, indescribable torments for us to see this day. They are the true sons and daughters of our soil and true heroes in every sense of the term.
What makes their sacrifice more worthy of honour and respect is that they worked hard knowing full well that they might not live to enjoy the fruits of their labour. They worked towards making a better tomorrow, a better India, not for themselves, but for us. They did it because it was the right thing to do, and nothing – I mean nothing – could stop them.
Here are some of the greatest quotes spoken by our great national heroes that show us how they burned to see the dawn of freedom.
Bhagat Singh: They may kill me, but they cannot kill my ideas. They can crush by body, but they cannot crush my spirit.
Rani Lakshmi Bai: Main Jhansi nai doongi!
Subhash Chandra Bose: It does not matter who among us will live to see India free. It is enough that India shall be free and that we shall give our all to make her free.
Bal Gangadhar Tilak: Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it.
Lala Lajpat Rai: The shots that hit me are the last nails to the coffin of British rule in India.
Chandra Shekha Azad: Ab bhi jiska khoon na khola, khoon nahi wo paani hai. Jo desh ke kaam na aaye, wo bekaar jawani hai.
Mahatma Gandhiji: Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
Yera salutes our great national heroes on behalf of our entire nation. We express our deepest gratitude to them for making such immense sacrifices for us without which we would not have been able to see this day.
Proud to be an Indian. Jai Hind, jai Bharat!
